The following survey asks you to consider your experience studying within an architecture studio in the academic year 2020-21.  We appreciate that for everyone this has been a challenging year and one in which it has not been possible for schools of architecture to provide their normal resources and facilities, due to the restrictions associated with the Covid pandemic. Your responses are all anonymous. Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey and helping us understand what an architecture studio means to you and how it can be improved.

Why have I been chosen, and what do I need to do?

We’re asking students at all schools of architecture in Europe to complete the questionnaire. This should take approximately 15 minutes of your time.

Do I have to take part?

No. Taking part in this research is entirely voluntary, and you are free to make your own choice about whether you want to participate. If you agree to take part you can choose not to answer any questions that you do not want to and you are free to withdraw at any time by closing the browser window. However, as the data is anonymised on collection it will not be possible for you to withdraw any data you input after you have completed the survey.

Are there any benefits and risks?

The findings of this study will contribute towards our understanding of the architecture studio, during both normal periods of face-to face teaching and during the period of remote studio teaching introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.  The results are intended to help improve architecture studio teaching and learning in future. There are no expected risks.

Will my taking part in this research be kept confidential?

You will not be asked to provide any personally identifiable information in this study (e.g. name, email address). The information collected about you during this research is anonymised on data collection, and any information you do provide will be kept confidential.

What will happen to my data?

We will keep all information you provide safe and secure.  Once the study is completed, the information you have given will be kept safely.

For more information on how your information will be processed and stored, the privacy notice can be found here:

What will happen to the results of this research?

A summary of the findings will be publicly available through the Standing Conference of Heads of Schools of Architecture (SCHOSA), the Royal Institute of British Architets (RIBA), the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) and the University of Bath's research portal.  The data may be published in research journals or used in presentations.
